BIOGRAPHY

Kim Alemian was born in Spokane, Washington, and has lived in Hong Kong, Bangkok,Thailand and Germany with her family. It was in Germany she began more formal private art studies with Marika Popovitz. She received her BFA at Massachusetts College of Art and Design in 1988, where she studied with George Nick and Rob Moore,and her MFA in painting from the School of Visual Arts, Boston University in 1991, where she studied with David Aronson, John Moore, and Richard Raiselis,. She also studied at the New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting and Sculpture with Graham Nickson.

Her work includes paintings, drawings and mixed media and has been exhibited nationally. Recent exhibition venues include Galerie bij de Boeken, EVEnt, and Huntenkunst International Art Fair, Ulft, Netherlands; New England College, NH; Soprafina Gallery, Boston, MA; Gardner Colby Gallery, Naples, FL; St. Botolph Club, Boston, MA; Concord Art Association, Concord, MA; Reynolds Ryan Gallery, New Orleans, LA; The Art Complex Museum, Duxbury, MA; Danforth Museum of Art, Framingham, MA; South Shore Art, Center, Cohasset, MA.

Alemian is represented by the Cove Gallery, Wellfleet, MA, Gardner Colby Gallery, Naples, FL, South Shore Art Center, Cohasset, MA and Edgewater Gallery, Middlebury, VT. She is currently President of The National Association of Women Artists—Massachusetts Chapter.

She curated the following exhibitions; Galvanized Truth: A Tribute to George Nick at The Art Complex Museum, StreetARTISTS | Bogota > Boston at South Shore Art Center, Reflection at South Shore Art Center, Cohasset, MA. Divergence: Five New England Artists at Reynolds Ryan Art Gallery in New Orleans, LA, Interior Spaces and Confluence: Mentor • Inspiration • Influence at South Shore Art Center, Cohasset, MA. Along with the curatorial aspect, she also produced catalogs for these exhibitions.

Alemian is the recipient of the Constantin Alajalov Award at Boston University School of Visual Arts and was included in 100 Boston Painters published by Schiffer publishing. She was awarded the Grumbacher Gold Medal, and is the recipient of many other awards for her work.

She has taught Drawing, Painting and Art Anatomy, at Boston University School of Visual Arts. Alemian has also lectured and taught Drawing and Painting workshops at The Baker Museum, Naples, FL; South Shore Art Center, Cohasset, MA; ConcordArt, Concord, MA.

She currently teaches at South Shore Art Center and resides just south of Boston with her husband.
